In Horizon Finance, users are encouraged to confirm the accuracy of their financial statements during the "Confirm Checks" phase of the accounting data workflow. One of the key validations at this stage is whether the Total Equity figure matches the Total Equity reported in the source accounting system.
If you notice a mismatch in Total Equity, this is often due to prior period adjustments (e.g., audit adjustments or late journal entries) that were made after the period was originally uploaded and approved in Horizon Finance.
Here’s how to resolve this:
✅ Step-by-Step Workflow to Upload Adjustments for Prior Periods
-
Follow the standard workflow for uploading accounting data up to the "Confirm Checks" stage.
-
On the Confirm Checks screen, review the Total Equity line. If this does not match your source system's equity figure, identify the prior period where the adjustment was made.
-
Navigate to that prior period in Horizon Finance:
-
Go to the Organizational Level
-
Click Accounting > Import Data
-
Set the Data Type to
Accountingand select the prior month
-
-
Locate the entity with the discrepancy. It will most likely be in the Approved tab.
-
Click the hamburger icon (⋮) next to the entity and select "Import Data".
-
Re-upload the data (via API or CSV), ensuring that:
-
All transactions for the period are included
-
The adjustments are reflected in the upload
-
This upload will overwrite all previously uploaded data for that period
-
-
Run through the checks for that period and return it to Approved status.
-
Return to the current period and re-run the checks:
-
The Total Equity figure will now update, pulling through the impact of the prior period changes.
-
🛠 Troubleshooting Tips
-
Be sure that all GL activity from the prior period is included — missing journals can continue to cause discrepancies.
-
If the upload fails checks or generates new errors, refer to the Common Errors When Uploading Data article.
